The British Embassy in Rangoon is committed to working for a better future for the people of Burma. We do this by promoting the need to respect human rights and freedom of expression and (alongside our colleagues from The UK Department for International Development), working to alleviate the humanitarian challenges faced by the people of this country. Our humanitarian assistance has a particular emphasis on health and primary education. We also work closely with our colleagues in the British Council, who offer English language training, promote educational opportunities and encourage cultural exchange.

Because of the UK Government’s concerns about the human rights situation in Burma, this Embassy does not offer the range of business support services our missions overseas normally provide, nor do we encourage tourism. We do, however, offer a range of other assistance, including:
