How to register a death

There is no obligation to register a death at the British Embassy, but by doing so you can obtain a UK death certificate, and a permanent copy of it will always be available in English in the UK.

In order to register a death with the Embassy you will need to provide:

  • Evidence of the deceased’s British nationality (eg. passport)
  • The local death certificate and translation

See Consular fees table for cost of registration plus one certified copy of the entry.
